  Climate:  Hot and humid climate all year round. The monsoon season is from June to September. Hurricanes can affect coastal and island locations. The central plateau regions are cooler and drier than the lowlands.
  Language: English, Spanish, Maya, Garifuna and other indigenous languages.
  Religion: Roman Catholic prominent in most areas. There are also small minority religious groups like Protestants, Jews and Afro-American Spiritists, which is basically Catholicism crossed with various African religions.

Helpful Tidbits...
Beach attire is appropriate for the beach but not the town, shops or restaurants.  Please refrain from short shorts, bikinis and bare chests in these places.  Informal, but conservative, clothing is the standard.
Linens, leather, china, crystal, collectibles, perfumes and fragrances, liquor and wine, watches and jewellery and more at unbeatable prices -it's enough to make a savvy shopper's credit card itch and duty-free shopping is extremely easy in the West Indies.
Long-distance buses that link most towns; fares are cheap and services are reliable, but the buses can be very crowded especially during the rush hour. Taxis and chauffeur-driven cars are cheap but can be scarce and are, in general, very old. It is usual to order them through the hotel. All official taxis have meters but in private taxis fares should be pre-arranged.
Men should not wear shorts except on or near the beach. Women wear light cotton dresses or trousers during the day and cocktail dresses for formal evenings.
